Ahmed has over 25 years of extensive experience in the anesthesia and pain management department and has gained all his experience from the Middle East. Ahmed has Bachelor, Master and degrees in his specialty from Cairo University, then his Doctorate degree from Al-Azhar University, Egypt. He has also completed a clinical research program from McMaster University, Canada. His main role has been in cardiac anesthesia and postoperative care. Working in National Heart Institute and highly organized and reputable hospitals in the Middle East has enabled him to get excellent updated experiences in his field. He participated in several conferences mostly held in the Middle East Area. Working in busy tertiary hospitals has helped him to gain excellent skills especially in the emergency situations where you have to take the right decisions at the right times. Francesca Cuzzocrea has her expertise in evaluation and improving the health and wellbeing. More specifically she has involved in the educational field with particular reference behavioural analysis. She has, therefore, designed and built some parent training of parents of disabled people and families at risk. In cooperation with the Pediatric Surgery Unit of University Hospital of Messina directed by Prof. Carmelo Romeo, Prof. Larcan and Prof. Cuzzocrea verify the efficacy of this psychological support to ensure continuous improvement in hospital practices, always with the main aim of reducing the emotional distress and promoting the welfare of children and parents. Dr. Kathy D. Schlecht is an Associate Professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. She completed her Anesthesia residency at the University of Michigan. Dr. Schlecht was the first anesthesiologist in the United States to complete the Stanford Faculty Development Program: Clinical Teaching Facilitator Training Course. Chun-Jen Huang, a professor at School of Medicine, Tzu Chi University, Hualien, Taiwan and the director of Department of Anesthesiology, Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan, has his expertise in clinical anesthesia, critical care medicine, pharmacology and molecular biology. Huang focuses his researches on the development of novel therapies against clinically challenging conditions, such as sepsis, hemorrhagic shock, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and abdominal trauma-related shock states. His research involves cellular studies, animal studies and clinical studies. Huang also focuses his researches on elucidating the impacts of anesthetic modes on the short-term and long-term outcomes of surgical patients using clinical studies and big data analysis. Pei-Shan Tsai, a distinguished professor and associate dean at Taipei Medical University College of Nursing in Taiwan, focuses her research on the link between stress‐response systems and chronic illnesses and outcomes of nursing care of patients with stress‐related illnesses. Tsai’s expertise includes using both physiological and behavioral measures in research for understanding the mechanisms and efficacy of nursing interventions. She also plays a vital role in demonstrating important health factors, disease prevalence, and health care effectiveness in the general population in Taiwan through secondary analysis of health data. Tsai is a collaborator noted for bringing researchers from different fields together to collaborate on research projects that have important clinical and policymaking implications. To date, she has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles in medical, psychology, and nursing journals, many of which have received a high number of citations from journal articles.

Laura is a medical student at University of Dundee undertaking her intercalated BMSc degree in Clinical Research with a strong interest in anesthetics, critical care and pre-hospital medicine. She has taken a year out of her studies to explore the world of human factors through the eyes of the surgical team of Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. She has spent the year combining two well established, complimentary models as described above to create the beginnings of a new, adapted model for a more thorough analysis of qualitative, human factors-related data.

Dr. Robert L. Barkin is Professor of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, and Family Medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He is also a clinical pharmacologist in a collaborative practice with 5 anesthesiologist physician pain specialists at the NorthShore University Health System Department of Anesthesiology Pain Center’s of Skokie and Evanston Hospitals in Illinois. His extensive practice is both outpatient and in-patient for all pain syndromes. Dr. Barkin designs patient specific pharmacotherpeutic treatment plans. Following graduation from St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Dr. Barkin earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Healthcare Administration from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. He then earned his Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Dr. Barkin is the author of more than 150 abstracts, CD-Rom programs, textbook chapters, and peer reviewed articles. He was senior Editor for the American Journal of Therapeutics. He also serves as a reviewer for over 30 peer-reviewed journals and on the Editorial Board of 20 peer reviewed journals. He is frequently invited to speak on a wide variety of topics at both national and international conferences and seminars. He is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management, a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, Diplomate of American Board of Forensic Medicine, Examiners, and Psychologic Specialties in Psychopharmacology. Dr. Barkin was granted Scientific status with the American Academy of Pain Medicine and has been granted the status of Overseas Fellow in the Royal Society of Medicine in England.

Dr. Loretta Grecu completed her Anesthesia residency at Yale University School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Cardiac Anesthesia as well as second fellowship in Critical Care Medicine, both at Harvard School of Medicine. Dr. Grecu has been practicing both Anesthesia and Critical Care since 2002, initially at Massachusetts General Hospital and since 2008 at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Grecu is an accomplished physician, an educator and a researcher with more than 24 published papers and book chapters.

He is also the Chief for Regional Anesthesiology and Perioperative Pain Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology. Formerly Dr. Lucas served as the Director of Obstetric Anesthesia at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital, Director of Interventional Pain Services at Pain Consultants of East Tennessee and Medical Director, Operating Rooms, Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Mark Johnson is a Professor of Pain and Analgesia in Leeds Metropolitan University, UK. He is a neurophysiologist and has been investigating the science of pain and its management at Leeds Metropolitan since the early 1990’s. He has published over 150 research articles and book chapters and is a lead member of the Leeds Pallium Research Group. He is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, The Pain Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The Higher Education Academy. He is the Chair of the TATE clinical trial steering group, and acts as an Expert Consultant. Dr. Johnson has previously directed Teaching, Learning and Assessment within the School and has been Chair of the Faculty Research Capability Team and Deputy Chair of the Faculty Ethics Committee.
