Biography

Gourang Patel has his expertise in pharmacy, pharmacology/toxicology. He has oversight over the adult intensive care units and perioperative areas at Rush University Medical Center. He has a specific focus and research in improving patient safety in the perioperative area. Over the last 15 years of his career he has authored almost 50 abstract/studies, authored over 25 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and has extensive experience in providing didactic teaching to medical school (MD) students, physicians assistants (PA), and in the certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA) programs. During the last several years he has successfully launched enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programs within the areas of orthopedics, colon-rectal surgery, gynecologic surgery, and neurosurgery. One of his specific areas of interest is a scientific evaluation of dosing limits for local anesthetics in the era of ERAS, multiple local anesthetics administered during surgery, and different routes of administration.
